Prints and the Pursuit of Knowledge in Early Modern Europe

Amazing exhibit!  Examines how celebrated Northern Renaissance artists contributed to scientific inquiries of the 16th century. Rare and treasured prints, drawings, books, maps, and scientific instruments demonstrate that artists were not just illustrators in the service of scientists but that their work played an active role in facilitating the understanding of new concepts in astronomy, geography, natural history, and anatomy.

Paul Kline's Art Letter

If you look at anything enough, you start to notice trends and subtle changes within those trends.

Today’s young artists are more engaging as a group, their art no longer resembles ‘dormitory’ art, and that art has come out of the vacuum that sucked up its relevance. The artists’ art-historical knowledge has increased and the substance of the art is more intriguing. That’s what I saw in several of the shows I visited and wrote a new ArtLetter about.

I’m excited about the next Klein Artist Works course. There are more artists enrolled than in any previous session. The artist participating from the furthest distance this time is from Western Australia. I am gratified by the impact, enthusiasm and range of this course. Thank you!

In less than a month, I’ll be rolling out Klein Collector Works. With all the exciting art being made, we want to nurture and educate an expanding collector base. I’ll keep you in touch.

Thanks very much!
Paul Klein
